Privacy policy

1. Who we are

This privacy policy explains how SJ Ventures LLC (“SJ Ventures”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects and uses personal information when you visit https://sjventures.llc, contact us or pay us online.

SJ Ventures LLC is a Delaware limited liability company (Delaware file number 3066733), with its registered address at 16192 Coastal Highway, Lewes, Delaware 19958, USA. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

2. The short version

  • We collect only what we need to reply to you, provide our services and take payments.
  • Our website does not use a database. The contact and order forms send us an email, and nothing else from the forms is kept on the web server. Your cart is stored only in your own browser until you send it.
  • We do not see or store your card or bank account details. Our payment providers handle them.
  • Our analytics are cookieless. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
  • We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

3. What we collect

Contact form

When you send us an enquiry, we collect:

  • name, email address, company and country;
  • your role (for example founder or inventor, SME, investor or board);
  • the services you are interested in;
  • your project stage, budget band and timeline;
  • your message; and
  • whether you are requesting a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

Please do not include sensitive personal information (such as health information) in your message.

Orders

When you send us an order from your cart, we collect your name, email address, company and country, the packages and services you selected, any notes you add, and whether you are requesting an NDA. We use this to send you an invoice or a proposal.

Payments

When you pay an invoice or deposit, we collect:

  • name, email address and company;
  • invoice number and amount; and
  • if you pay online through a payment link, your payment details (card or bank account), which are entered on the payment provider’s secure page and processed by that provider.

We never see or store your full card number or bank account details. The payment provider shares with us the information needed to confirm and record the payment, such as your name, email address, amount, payment method type and payment status. If you pay by wire transfer, we receive the payment details your bank sends with the transfer.

Emails and our business relationship

If you email us or become a client, we hold the information in our correspondence and in the documents we exchange, such as proposals, service agreements and invoices.

Technical data

  • Spam protection. Our contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real person is submitting it. Turnstile processes signals from your browser and device, such as your IP address and browser characteristics, to tell people and bots apart.
  • Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. It gives us aggregate statistics, such as page views and referring sites. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not build a profile of you.
  • Server logs. Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses and request details to deliver the website, keep it secure and prevent abuse.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, the GDPR or UK GDPR requires us to have a legal basis for using your personal information. We rely on:

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered your interests and rights, and you can object at any time (see section 9).

We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you. We do not send marketing emails without your permission.

5. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers (processors) to run our website and business. They process personal information on our behalf and under their own data protection terms:

  • Cloudflare: website hosting, security, spam protection (Turnstile) and cookieless analytics.
  • Resend: sends the emails generated by our contact and order forms and payment notifications.
  • Stripe (when online payment is offered), or the payment provider named on your payment link: processes card and ACH payments and sends payment receipts. Stripe may also use some information as an independent controller, for example to prevent fraud and meet its own legal obligations, as described in Stripe’s privacy policy.
  • Microsoft: hosts our email (Microsoft 365), where enquiries and client correspondence are kept.

We may also share information:

  • with third-party specialists or suppliers where needed to deliver services you have asked for, on a confidential basis;
  • with our professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers; and
  • where required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

We do not sell personal information.

6. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process personal information in the United States and other countries. If you are in the EEA or the UK, this means your information is transferred outside your country.

Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards offered by our service providers, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, as applicable. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards.

7. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries. Contact form enquiries and related emails are kept in our mailbox for as long as needed to respond to you and, if you become a client, for the duration of our business relationship and a reasonable period afterward.
  • Client and financial records. Proposals, service agreements, invoices and payment records are kept for as long as required by tax, accounting and other laws.
  • Payment records at our payment providers. Payment providers keep payment records in line with their own legal obligations.
  • Technical data. Spam protection signals and server logs are kept by Cloudflare for short periods in line with its own policies. Analytics are aggregate and do not identify you.

When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

8. Cookies

We do not set any cookies on our website, and our analytics are cookieless.

Some third-party services we use may set strictly necessary cookies on their own pages or widgets:

  • Payment pages (such as Stripe Checkout, or the page your payment link opens) may set cookies on the provider’s own pages to process your payment securely and prevent fraud.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technology within the spam protection widget.

These are needed for the service you have asked for, so they do not require consent. We do not use advertising, social media or cross-site tracking cookies.

9. Your rights (EEA and UK)

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • rectification, to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • erasure, to ask us to delete your information;
  • restriction, to ask us to limit how we use your information;
  • object to our use of your information where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • portability, to receive your information in a structured, commonly used format; and
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

Some rights have conditions and exceptions. For example, we may need to keep financial records to meet legal obligations.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). In the EEA, you can contact the authority in the country where you live or work. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first, so please contact us.

10. Your rights (United States)

If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and to access it;
  • delete personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate personal information; and
  • not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We do not collect sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.

You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. If your request is refused, you may be able to appeal by replying to our response.

11. How to make a request

To exercise any of your rights, email hello@sjventures.llc. We may need to verify your identity before we act on your request. We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you (usually one month under the GDPR and UK GDPR, and 45 days under US state laws).

12. Children

Our website and services are intended for businesses and adults. They are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Security

We use reputable service providers and take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. Our website uses HTTPS encryption. Payment details are handled by Stripe and never pass through or stay on our systems. Access to our email is restricted and protected. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. If we make significant changes, we will make that clear on this page.
